A game of sorts, A game of sorting, A sorting game

Elli Kuruş in cooperation with Katie Vida
video edition 13min, developed out of one on one performance on zoom

2021/2022

Text by Elli Kuruş:

The video “A game of sorts. A game of sorting. A sorting game.” emerged from a digital performance in which the performer Katie Vida acted with a sculpture by Elli Kuruş. One participant at a time was connected via zoom and asked to “sort” things. The performance is an exaggerated mixture of a trauma regression and an ASMR video. The performer asks the participant to assign a series of objects to a side: Left or Right, Worthless or Valuable, Priceless or Valued. The performance repeats and questions the binary logic of capitalist value production, hinting to its internalized and externalized devaluation effects.
